Andy Wear was born in Rockhampton, Queensland in 1971. AW grew up in rural Queensland. In 1989 AW enrolled in a BArts in Visual Arts at the University of Southern Queensland. AW dropped out after two years and moved to Brisbane with his friends to play in a cabaret-punk band called Grimrippers. They released an EP in 1991. They disbanded in 1993, but AW continued to perform and record as a solo-artist. In 1999 AW went back to university. In 2005 AW moved to Hobart and graduated with a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Tasmania. AW has published a number of book chapters and articlesmostly on aesthetic philosophy. In 2007 AW released a limited edition vinyl-only EP. In 2010 AW moved to Melbourne, and worked for some time in a government department before returning to academia (of sorts).
