Car Seat Headrest returns with The Scholars, a modern masterpiece that finds the celebrated quartet returning to the energetic, anthemic rock sound of their earliest records but expanded in both scope and concept. Inspired by the '70's rock operas that frontman Will Toledo loved growing up (Tommy, Ziggy Stardust) the album is set at the fictional college campus Parnassus University, where the travails of the various students and staff illuminate a loose, universal narrative of life, death, and rebirth. While Toledo sketched the initial song demos on his own, the music was completed and recorded by the full Car Seat Headrest band.
