Madeline Leman & The Desert Swells - Nobody's Fool

Spanning many moods; from tongue in cheek honky tonk, to 70s pop, 60s psychedelia and 50s doo-wop, Nobody's Fool perfectly exemplifies the band's unique 'femmericana' sound. Including songs written across the full span of her career, the album features the nuanced tales of female protagonists that chronicle Leman's love, life, and politics over a good part of her 20s.

Featuring the vocals of Leah Senior, the band provides the perfect backdrop of 1970s nostalgia met head on with the fire of 4th wave feminism and a fresh take on country songwriting.


With songs of everyday love and loss, Nobody's Fool embodies the notion of personal as political and aims right at the heart of the female experience.

The album also features an all female choir made up of Melbourne vocalists Tiaryn, Brooke Russell, Leah Senior, Georgia Delves, Cookie Baker and Kelly Day. Echoing the voices of the women's movement, the choir represent a fierce female energy and celebrates the community of women Leman finds herself in. The album implores the listener to step back and let the women's voices be heard, sending a message of empowerment that is ultimately joyous and uplifting.

Recorded by Myles Mumford and mixed in a predominantly analogue studio by Matt Walker of Lost Ragas and Rowan Matthews, the album emits a warmth and sincerity that draws on the classic sounds of the golden age of rock n roll.
